A Fool for an iPod

While your making your way through Chicago, or where you may be, take a look around. You see them on trains, buses, people walking around, those tiny wires that connect people's heads to their pockets. It's what you hear when your sitting next to someone and thinking, "I can hear the voices in that guy's head". The beloved MP3 player.

Take a closer look and you'll see people like me, big headphones connected to a CD player. I must be so behind the times. How can I not have one? It matches all of the clothes I own. Everyone knows that I don't have one, they can still see. Why don't I just get one so the world will stop worrying about me.

I don't want one....

First of all the MP3 player is still in its infancy. The amzing advances that we will see made to the MP3 in the coming years will probably prompt me to get one, but for now they are nothing. Most people use their MP3 players for one thing...listen to music. Most MP3 players can do alot more. Aside from not being aware of the things you can do with it, most everyone would find the other uses, useless.

One of top deciding factors when purchasing an mp3 player is memory. Everyone thinks they need this big 40gb hard drive so they have all sorts of music to choose from at any given time. Studies show however that most people only keep enough songs on their devices to fill up an iPod shuffle....1gb. Also, consumers seem to be down on flash memory. The truth is flash memory is faster, it will skip less than that ulrtaslow harddrive in your full sized ipod. Flash memory is also gettting cheaper by the day. Why spend all of that money on something you'll barely use. Right now 1gb flash memory cards are the highest, but were very close to having 20gb flash memory cards being on the market.

If your such a gadget freak that you need 1 gadget to do one job then at least get something that you can exchange memory with. Why not get a flash memory mp3 player, chances are if your a gadget guru that can afford a $300 ipod then you have a digital camera too, and maybe something else that uses the same type of memory. Then again if you anything about gadgets, you'll know that you can get an mp3 player on anything nowadays. The most common being a Palm top Computer or PDA. It costs about the same price and can do lots, lots more than just play music.

I would almost swear that someone's nerves were connect by that tiny white cord connecting the earbuds. Why is this the chosen speaker for music lovers. Those tiny circle have the poorest sound quality. I thought if you loved music you got a bigger stereo, with bigger speaker so you could hear more depth. I suppose as long as it looks cool with your jacket and doesn't mess up your hair, then anythings good for listening to your music collection.

I'm not looking down on anyone for owning these cool, little gadgets, I promise. I just don't see where the need for this specified device came from. All of you trendy, hipsters sleep safe knowing there is one less person out there after your iPod. It is the number 1 target for theives now. It's worth more than what's usually found in a wallet.

Someday one of these genius marketing professionals will add something that will make me want one. Until then, I'll just go about listening to my headphones, one cd at a time....dreaming of a palmtop computer that I can listen to music on while I read an e-book or play a game or write a work of prose or take a picture at all of the people whose heads are attached by those tiny white wires.
